Introduction

The materials assembled on this disk are intended to help you in your study of the Russian language. In particular, the materials are designed to assist you in maximizing the benefit you derive from the hours you spend outside of class preparing your daily assignments. In order to make use of the disk you must have installed one of the standard web browsers (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.) on your computer.  A version of the Netscape browser is included on the CD-ROM.  If your computer is running 32-bit Windows 95 or Windows 98 you may install this version of the Netscape browser to your computer by double-clicking the file "n32e408.exe" on the CD-ROM.

The disk contains materials of various kinds. Included are a syllabus and study plan for Russian 1101 and Russian 1102 at the University of Minnesota. Links from the Syllabus will connect you to video clips containing explanation and modeling of the grammar and vocabulary of each lesson in the textbook, Russian for Everybody, by Robert Baker et al.

There are also links to several self-standing instructional programs which will help you to master vocabulary, learn the inflected forms of nouns, verbs, and adjectives, and obtain instruction and drill on basic grammatical patterns. These self-standing programs are available only to those using DOS/Windows platform computers. Finally, there are links to web-based exercises for each lesson. In order to use these you will need an active internet connection and you will also need to configure your computer in a special way so that Cyrillic fonts and keyboard will be available. Follow this link for information about setting up Windows 95/98 for Cyrillic.  Follow this link for systems prior to Windows 95/98.  The disk is designed to be used on a PC running Windows 3.1. Later versions of Windows are not supported. The Macintosh platform is not supported.
